Nadia Don, M.A., RCC

Associate Counsellor

She offers an integrative and practical, person-centered approach to understand and support her clients. Therapies she draws from include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) where the focus is on helping clients gain insight into their ongoing life stressors and guiding them towards different ways of looking at things in order to identity and process their stressors; Trauma-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), which is rooted in a deep belief in the healing power of families; Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), which aims to focus on maximizing the client’s ability to find their own solutions with the right amount of support and acceptance, empathy and understanding; Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), which focuses on helping clients navigate through relationships that may cause conflict in their lives and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), which allows clients to focus on constructive and positive language and helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than placing focus on the problems.

Additionally, she has worked at the former Vancouver Mental Patients Association from 1998-2001. Over the course of her Master’s level education, she has completed her internships (between 2002-2005) at the Maple Ridge Treatment Centre; Matsqui Institution (medium security prison-Abbotsford); Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture (VAST- Vancouver). Tricia is also very passionate about working with families. As she believes the family is a small unit that reflects the broader community, city, country and even the world. Therefore, by making a small change or impact on one family unit, there is potential for more significant transformation globally.

Tricia works mainly from a Bowen Family System framework and uses techniques from a CBT, Narrative and Gottman methods. The Bowenian framework is holistic in nature, where it looks at the individual from a family of origin perspective. In colloquial terms, “no one is an island, no one stands alone.” In essence, the individual’s outlook and maladaptive patterns may be shaped by possible patterns from their family of origin. By assisting the client to come into awareness of these patterns, helping them to reduce their anxiety, and create balance between emotionality and cognition will potentially allow for change to occur with the individual and the larger family system.
