Tricia-Kay Williams, M.A., RCC
CEO
Tricia (She/her), did an undergraduate degree in Psychology at the York University in Toronto, Ontario. She then travelled to Vancouver B.C. where she completed a graduate degree in Counselling Psychology at the Adler University.
Tricia has extensive experience counselling individuals and families previously at the Salvation Army, the Pacific Community Resource Society as a Clinical Practicum student, and more recently at the Westcoast Family Centre as an FLA Co-parenting Family Counsellor.
Tricia is skilled in treating: Trauma, Anxiety, Transitional/Career and Relational issues. She is also an active community and social services professional who worked for some years as a Residential Youth Worker.
Tricia is passionate about youth that is transitioning to adulthood. This age is turbulent and significant in the lifespan. Focusing on life goals, career paths and relationships seem to be the top challenges faced by this age group
Tricia is also very passionate about working with families. As she believes the family is a small unit that reflects the broader community, city, country and even the world. Therefore, by making a small change or impact on one family unit, there is potential for more significant transformation globally.
Tricia works mainly from a Bowen Family System framework and uses techniques from a CBT, Narrative and Gottman methods. The Bowenian framework is holistic in nature, where it looks at the individual from a family of origin perspective. In colloquial terms, “no one is an island, no one stands alone.” In essence, the individual’s outlook and maladaptive patterns may be shaped by possible patterns from their family of origin. By assisting the client to come into awareness of these patterns, helping them to reduce their anxiety, and create balance between emotionality and cognition will potentially allow for change to occur with the individual and the larger family system.
